A friend bought me this for my birthday and I picked it up the other day and haven't put it down. It is hysterical. Very fun and easy read.
I read this book on BART and found myself laughing out loud several times. As a single woman living in the San Francisco Bay area, I can vouch that these are not completely imaginary happenings, they happen to most of us. The author simply has an absolute killer way of phrasing the stories and making you join in the fun that is her twisted vision of life.
You will find yourself laughing out loud in public, so don't be shy.
Now I have to go try an "Irish Car Bomb"....
I have met her in person she is wonderful person inside and out. I have really enjoyed this book most books catch your eye like this but then let you down at least the ones I've read. But this book does not fall short she keeps you laughing for hours and you never want to put it down.
I met the author over the summer when she was editing her book and I asked her about what the book was about. We had been talking, mostly about our pets and I found her to be charming,down-to-earth funny and very witty. I got her business card so as not to forget to look for her book when it came out. This couldn't be bad I thought, she is just too funny for this not to be good.
Ok, I will tell you, I am not easily offended, my friends and I are not put off by the f word or some irreverent humor or the occasional religious joke. If any of these things make a book intolerable for you I would walk away now.
If, you like witty, funny/bawdy humor or live or were raised in the SF bay area you may just like it. Deirdre's life hasn't been easy-losing a well paying job at a tech company, dealing with her cranky cow of a neighbor, valentines day for the single person, filing for bankruptcy, but how she handles it and writes about it is hilarious. The section on what men need not do if they want to ever see a woman naked....too funny.
The chapters aren't necessarily in any special order-they are short and a bit random. Right now, I want to be entertained and short, random chapters that make me laugh are just what I want. Sometimes you want War & Peace, and sometimes you just want to read something to make you laugh.
Overall, a funny book and well, if you live out here, you might even want to try out her favorite Tiki bar in Alameda that she writes about....I know I love a good girly cocktail as much as anyone....I mean, hang a monkey or an orchid on the glass and well, good times.....so, thanks for the recommendation.
I hope this isn't Deirdre's last short story foray, I'd definitely like to hear more from her and will be watching for any new items. Wishing her much success!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a humorous look at the difficult times so many people are living through right now.

This a perfect book for any woman who survived dating in her 30's.
My love for squirrels is however waning.
I actually know Ms Sargent from many years ago and reading her book was almost like catching up with an old friend. One chapter had me laughing out loud as I had been a part of that story and loved seeing her take on what had happened.
I will be interested in reading more of Ms. Sargent's work in the future and I have been telling people to take a look at this book as I ended up reading almost all of it in one setting.
