I've greatly been enjoying anything from Kelex, and this new series is no different. It takes place in the Bear Mountain universe. Bear Mountain is a group of mountains with a valley that is inhabited by shifters. While mainly bear shifters, there's other types there too. The Bear Gods placed a protective shield around the mountain ("The Wall"). Only shifters who mean no harm, or their human mates, can make it past the shield. From outside, even satellites don't pick up the image of the town there and people just have a natural aversion to the place. In the Bear Mountain series, we've discovered that the government or other agencies have been experimenting on shifters, and exterminating them, in something they called "Project Zed". Several ex-military shifters have decided to shut down the operation so that more shifters aren't killed or mutated.The book is definitely a series. It builds up on the previous book, and it is STRONGLY recommended to read them in order. And if you want to get a real feel for the characters, I'd start with Bear Mountain #1. They're all good books and build up the setting that Project Zed takes place in. In this book, lion shifter Cyprian had been captured a long time ago by project Zed and experimented on. He's now something more. Cutler is a former marine who enlisted in Project Zed to help save the world against the shifter menace. But now that he's found himself on Bear Mountain and realizes it's not really a menace, he's working with the shifters to stop Project Zed. Cutler has a strange attraction to Cyprian, but until they can get Cyprian's mind calmed (an affect of the previous mind-control he experienced), he's not sure why. And then there's Dario. A normal person that gets attacked one day in an alley who finds he can do certain superpowerful things and feels a driving need to get to Bear Mountain.
A lot of things happen in this book. It's mainly an action book with a bit of romance/erotica thrown in. It's told in the third person perspective in a non-linear fashion. While all Kelex books center around the romance between a pair or trio of people, this series has its own flavor as it has a higher focus on the action. The story is mostly self-contained in that it does have a definitive beginning and ending to the Cyprian/Cutler romance, but it really should be read in sequence with the others as Cyprian and Cutler are first introduced in the previous book. It's in this book that the story focuses upon them. And it's in this book where the groundwork is laid for the next characters' story.
I never imagined with Bear Mountain #1 that such a rich, detailed world would be created. But it has, and I cannot wait for the next!

I loved Savage by Kelex. This is the second book in the Project Zeb series which is a spinoff of the Bear Mountain series. You don’t have to read the Bear Mountain series to read the Project Zeb series. Project Zeb series is set in the Bear Mountain world but mostly focuses on the Indian land owned by Sebastian that is next to Bear Mountain.
We met Sebastian and his mate, Cal, from the first book in the series, Beast. We get to see more of their relationship in the second book also, with Cal having nightmares and finally giving into going and seeing a therapist. We are also introduced to a new character Dario, who is a fire elemental. He didn’t realize that he was anything but human until he was attacked and his new powers protected him. Since then he has been compelled to travel to Bear Mountain. He’s taken in by Sebastian who is going to help him with his powers since he’s an elemental also.
This book mostly focuses on Staff Sargent Culter Morrison and Subject Z-620, otherwise known as Cyprian. Culter was recruited by Colonel Lore to help with Project Zeb. While moving up through the various jobs that he was given over the six years he was there, he had always had a connection and fascination to Subject Z-620 and wanted to help free him. But it wasn’t until he went down in a plane crash over Bear Mountain that he realized that shifters weren’t the monsters he was lead to believe. As a result, he has joined the team of shifters who have made it their mission to bring down Project Zeb one beast at a time and help put them back together again.
During Cutler’s first mission with the shifters, they bring down one of the weaponized creatures the project had imprisoned and brought him to safety. Using a serum that their two shifter healers have perfected to help control and calm all of the shifter voices fighting for control, they are able to help Subject Z-620 reclaim his life and reunite him with Culter. Culter has always felt a connection to Cyprian (Z-620), but he doesn’t know why but with Deacon’s help, he’s able to unlock some of the memories that were hidden from him. Lots of twist with Culter that I didn’t see coming.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Cyprian and Culter and Sebastian and Cal. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book in the series. The author has hinted that it might be about Dario and his mate Arnaud and I can’t wait to read it.

great series, Loved it!!
This is not a stand alone as you'll be lost if you haven't at least read Project Zed Beast, but better if you have read Bear Mountain. Totally loved the pairing of Cutter & Cyprian. So many question and yet so many new paths to explore.
Another must read by Kelex. Good solid characters and plot. I liked Cutler from the first intro from the Bear Mountain series. I was excited to see him have his own story. At first the intermix of current and flashbacks can be hard to follow. Then it is just like puzzle pieces coming together. I love the twists that come out. Looking forward to more of this series.
Another excellent addition to this series and the one connected to it. I so enjoy meeting the Beasts and watching them heal and find their mates. The evil that was done to them by Fore, hopefully will be revenged soon. Love Curtis and Cyprian together. Their chemistry is off the charts as is their devotion to each other. Love visiting with characters from past books. Looking forward to Dario, Arnaud and whoever their mate may be, soon.
