What can I say about Natalie, Flynn and Fluff. This little trio, their friends and families have come to be some of my favorite characters. Natalie has had such a difficult life, her dog, Fluff, bites the world famous movie star, Flynn, and passion ensues. Natalie is a strong, sexy resilient woman. She was traumatized as a teenager and her world was destroyed. She pulls her self back together and puts her world back together. For Flynn it’s love at first bite. He has a secret he keeps from all but his closest friends, but he wants Natalie. Flynn is a sexual dominant. Natalie has given up on sex forever and when Flynn falls for her he swears he can put his dominant side aside. His dominance wrecked his first marriage and he can’t let it interfere with this second chance because he knows she is “the one”. As Flynn and Natalie fall deeper in love secrets come out and hearts may be broken. I can’t remember when I have fallen for characters so fast in a long time. This book is hot and sexy and sweet. I listened to this book on audiobook and the narration by Brooke Bloomingdale and Cooper North is excellent. Their work truly added a different dimension to the story and I fell in love with them.
I got this book for free, and should have realised why. Apparently I didn't read far enough into the description to realize that it's not part of a series, it's part of a serial. The first book is free, the second is $3.99, the third is $4.99, which means the true price of this story is $8.98. I don't pay that for kindle fiction of this type, it's not worth it. I was able to get the gist of the rest of the story by reading the reviews, I'm so glad I wasn't suckered into paying for this story, when you read it, it's inane and unbelievable.
Virtuous, Book 1 in the Quantum Trilogy is M.S. Force's first venture into erotic romance. While it a departure from her work as Marie Force, it has everything her fans love and have come to expect from her books- beautiful writing, complex, charming characters, engaging, witty dialogue and lots of romance, along with some new elements- dirty talking, hot sex, and BDSM. I loved the alternating first person POV-I felt like I was in the heads and hearts of both Natalie and Flynn. While their relationship moves at warp speed, Natalie's story and her traumatic past slowly unfolds. For me, that worked really well. That their intimate relationship moved more slowly, served to balance the 'love at first sight' trope.With Flynn, Natalie wants things she thought she'd never want. I found her past, the little bit that is revealed in this book, so tragic and horrifying. She's brave, compassionate, kind, funny, and refreshingly honest except about the traumatic event that changed her life eight years ago. With Natalie, Flynn wants things he never thought he'd want. After a bad marriage and even worse divorce, he's publicly sworn off marriage forever. However, he's reconsidering his view after meeting Natalie. Flynn is practically perfect--nice, gorgeous, intelligent, witty, compassionate, generous, successful, loyal, and devoted to his family. He's also a sexual Dominant, and his lifestyle is at odds with what Natalie needs in a relationship. I have every hope that the two can work to find a way to be happy together, but we'll have to wait to see how their journey unfolds over the next two books, Valorous, and Victorious. Fair warning The Quantum Trilogy is a cliffhanger series, with each book releasing one week apart. I'm not usually a fan of cliffhangers, but a week isn't too long for me to wait for the next book.
I picked up this book because it was an "if you like X, try this!" recommendation. The bona fides were solid and reviews decent. It's possible that the gratingly "little girl" voice used by the audiobook narrator set me off. It's possible that the author's name combined with the cover art led me to believe I was buying a different genre than what this book is. Maybe I've just read too many romances - movie reviewers cease to like basic, nice movies that people like me find perfectly delightful because I haven't seen it 400 times already - could be the same thing here. But I couldn't get into Virtuous at all.
I'm assuming "Virtuous" is because our young adult heroine tells nearly everyone she talks to that she won't sleep with a guy before marriage. That it's because of a traumatic past makes it a believable position. Except that in this millennium I would think that road testing would be smarter than tying yourself to life to someone who may or may not treat you right in bed. Because while one expects only to marry someone who would do you right, abusers are extremely good at hiding themselves until you're trapped. Finding out on a wedding night that you've chosen poorly would be inadvisable for most, catastrophic for her. I'm not dissing the heroine's lack of interest in casual sex, just her naïveté in thinking marriage would make it safe.
As for the hero, he "just likes her". Even seeing inside his head, he just feels this strange attraction. There is no depth to it at all. He ascribes all sorts of glowing traits to a young lady he meets when she has the wind knocked out of her, and just runs with it. He doesn't really get to know her. He "just likes her". And while I believe in chemistry at first sight - there are some people you just like - I needed more from this character because, as a famous movie star who can snap his fingers and have anyone he wants, I could not buy that he wants our heroine. After several meetings, his thoughts and words never deepen, and he didn't think about much. He was such a lunkhead that I didn't care.
So we have the damaged not-quite ingenue meets bored superstar and I found neither character nor their budding relationship interesting or compelling enough to make me continue past his offer to take her to a televised awards banquet. He'd throw a newbie to the paparazzi wolves within a week of meeting her? Not nice. That she, someone who had been attacked/ raped/ abused (one or all) would seriously think about flying out of state for essentially a third date with a dude who is so rich he could dump her body out of his private plane in the middle of nowhere, and could buy the silence of his employees whose livelihoods depend on him staying a star, is crazy. He'll get her a dress, and she'll stay at his place, and depend on him for transportation? That's a recipe for disaster. Fortunately for her, he doesn't seem smart enough to pull off anything crafty. But he's an actor, so how does she know what he is so soon? She doesn't. I don't know if she goes to the awards dinner/ party because I gave up on them at that point as TSTL.
It's a Cinderella story, from what I can tell. If you like a fantasy where you trust the H/H to be goodhearted and and do goofy foolish things because their insides are all wiggly, this may be the book for you. But I am not that trusting, and it takes a lot of effort to make the Cinderella trope work for me. It can be done, but this author did not do it for me.
Can I return this ebook and audiobook?
